We lived next door to the Perkins Family for a number of years. Our houses were a stone's throw from Lindberg School. I remember Mr. Perkins sitting out in front of the firehouse, and that the family would often walk over to visit him when he was on duty. I am so sorry to hear of Jack's death. My heart goes out to Jill and Tony and the Perkins Family.
Okay, it wasn't my proudest moment in life. In the 6th grade or so, I got into a fight with Jack after school. Who knows why. I can't remember. I'm sure it wasn't over a girl. Nobody would like me for years. Anyway, the fight probably lasted 2 minutes or so. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. He would grow up to be a big man.
In the 7th and 8th grade, we would be members of the powerful Lindbergh basketball teams. We also played on Charley Farrow's (Lonnie's dad) Hagee-Guthery team. We played all over town and in Avenue City. He might also have been a member of the St Joseph Avenue Gunners. We played quite a few games at Muchenberger Center. I remember his dad who was a fireman on St Joseph Avenue. I remember he had a brother, Tony, who got hit in the head by a horseshoe during summer playground. I did'nt throw it. Of course, there was twin Jill. They lived a stone or horseshoe throw on N. 8th just north of Lindbergh.
